We have introduced a new spray-tanning experience here at MEDISKIN. The Silk Oil is the worlds first luxurious spray body treatment. It is a deeply hydrating dry body oil which is applied to the skin in the same way as a spray tan and the colour is left to develop over the next 8 hours. Because this is a moisturising body treatment there is no need to shower off, just allow the oil to soak deep into your skin to nourish and soften.
You will also take a FREE bottle of the Silk Oil to reapply if you want to. This will ensure your skin stays luxuriously soft and silky, and extends the life of your golden glow.

Achieving that perfect summer glow

A fake tan is the only safe tan. At MEDISKIN we provide a fully customisable spray tanning experience with the latest and safest equipment available.
Our spray tans range from €25 to €45.

However, sometimes you may not be able to make it into the clinic or just prefer a self tanningjob at home.

Here are the top tips for getting the perfect bronzed
look at home from MEDISKIN tanning experts:

  • Exfoliate. It is extremely important to exfoliate your skin well prior to your tan. We recommend starting at least a week before, and a daily exfoliant can be in the form of a griity scrub, such as the Glamour Grit body scrub from Urban Tan, available at MEDISKIN for €18. You could also use exfoliating mitts daily while in the shower. We love the TanErase from Tanorganic, an exfoliating mitt that is amazing at removing dead skin cells and old tan. Available at MEDISKIN for €14.99
  • Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! Keeping your skin well hydrated and supple will not only create a perfect base for tan application, but also help your tan last longer. Just like exfoliation, start moisturising your skin every day for at least a week before. Do not wear any moisturiser on your skin while you are applying your tan as it will act as a barrier.
  • All hair removal should be done at least 24 hours before your tan. This prevents the little brown spots that sometimes appear, and reduces the risk of infection as the hair follicles will no longer be open after waxing.
  • Remove any deodorant, perfume, moisturiser and any jewellery before tanning, as these will act as a barrier and prevent your skin from achieving a perfect smooth finish.
  • Use gloves or a tanning mitt to apply the tan. If you have to use your hands, make sure you wash your palms thoroughly after application.
  • Use a tissue to buff the tan into the skin at the wrist and ankles. Any areas of dry skin can be gently buffed too. This ensures a blended finish.
  • To make your tan last for as long as possible, keep it very well hydrated. Moisturising your skin daily will not only extend it, but also help it to fade evenly. Our favourite tan extending moisturiser is the Glamour Gloss from Urban Tan. A daily moisturiser with a hint of gradual colour, Perfect for topping up your tan and keeping it looking perfect for longer.

How To Make Dairy-Free Coconut Yogurt

How To Make Dairy-Free Coconut Yogurt

What You Need
Ingredients
2 (14-ounce) cans coconut milk
2 teaspoons agar agar flakes, or 2 tablespoons tapioca starch (see Recipe Notes)
4 probiotic capsules, or 4 tablespoons store-bought coconut yogurt
2 tablespoons raw sugar or maple syrup, optional

Equipment
Glass jars with lids, for storing the yogurt
Measuring spoons
Medium saucepan
Whisk
Thermometer, optional

Instructions
Warm the oven and sterilize the jars:
Warm the oven for about 5 minutes, until it reaches about 100°F, then turn off the heat — leave the light on to help keep the oven warm. Fill the jar(s) you'll use for storing the yogurt with boiling water to sterilize them. Let stand a few minutes, then pour the water out.
Alternatively, you can run the jars through the dishwasher.

Pour the coconut milk into a saucepan:
Shake the can of coconut milk, open it, and pour it into a medium pot. Whisk until the milk is smooth and uniform.

Add the thickener:
If you're using agar agar, sprinkle 1 teaspoon of agar agar flakes into the pot over the coconut milk — but don’t stir! If you're using tapioca starch, scoop out roughly 1/3 cup of the coconut milk and transfer to a bowl with the starch. Whisk this together until the starch is dissolved, then pour back into the pot.

Warm the coconut milk:
Place the pan on the stove over medium heat and warm until the coconut milk starts to simmer. (The agar agar will also start to melt together.) Whisk the milk and turn down the heat to low. Continue cooking on low, whisking occasionally, for 5 to 10 minutes, until the agar agar flakes are fully dissolved or the tapioca starch has thickened the mixture.

Cool the milk:
Cool the milk until it's just warm to the touch, about 100°F.
Add the probiotics: Twist open the probiotic capsule and pour the powdery contents over the milk (discard the capsule’s casing). Whisk to combine. Alternatively, whisk in 4 tablespoons store-bought coconut yogurt.
Add the sugar or maple syrup. Whisk together well.

Pour into jar(s) and allow the yogurt to set for 12 to 24 hours:
Pour the coconut milk into the sterilized jar(s) and screw on the lid(s). Place into the oven — turn the oven light on to keep the environment warm. Alternatively, use a yogurt maker or place into a dehydrator at 110°F. Leave for 12 to 24 hours without disturbing.

Chill the yogurt:
Place the set yogurt into the fridge and chill for at least 6 hours. The yogurt will become thicker as it chills. After this stage, you might find that the mixture has separated with a yellowish, translucent layer at the bottom and a thicker white layer on top. Stir to recombine or scoop off the top layer for thicker coconut yogurt.

Keep coconut yogurt refrigerated and use within 2 weeks.

Recipe Notes
If the yogurt develops a pink or grey discoloration on its surface, that means it has been contaminated with bad bacteria.
Throw it away and do not eat it!

Thickener-free coconut yogurt: The night before making the yogurt, chill the can of coconut milk. Do not shake. Open the can of chilled coconut milk and scoop off the top layer of cream, leaving behind the liquidy coconut water below (you can discard the water or use it for making smoothies or cooking oatmeal). Add the probiotics and continue making the yogurt as directed.

Making extra-thick coconut yogurt:
→ Scoop about 1 tablespoon of the fermented yogurt into a small bowl and stir together with 1 teaspoon ground psyllium husk. Pour back into the jar and stir together well.

→ Stir 3 tablespoons of chia seeds into the jar of fermented yogurt. Chill for 4 hours until thickened.

→ Transfer the yogurt to a strainer lined with cheesecloth and set over a bowl. Allow to strain overnight, just like when making Greek-style yogurt.

Preventing oily skin on holidays!

***No Filters***

No excuses, big workout this am.

Even though I am eating out and drinking wine, I am maintaining my exercise as much as I can to help counteract the extra calories and to get rid of processed sugars I normally wouldn't have in my diet.

Usually when I go into warmer climates my skin tends to break out easily.
Here are my tips for reducing oily skin on holidays:

*exercise regularly to detox the skin
*eat fish once a day for healthy omegas
*drink 2-3 litres of water a day
*wear oil free moisturisers and oil free spfs, image skincare S matte spf32 is my favourite
*cleanse your skin 2-3 times daily to remove excess oil stimulated by the heat
*get plenty of rest and sleep

Holiday Maintenance

***No Filters***

Maintaining my workout routine has been really tough since leaving home for my holidays.

Since arriving in Australia I've basically eaten out three times a day and I'm having a glass of vino with dinner most nights which I would never normally do.

I've definitely noticed my skin is looking a little dull and I have a few blemishes popping up. I'm doing my best to get a workout in when I can and drinking lots and lots of water.

Clients often comment on my skin and how clear it looks and I always put it down to my clean diet and lifestyle.
I can certainly see in the last two weeks how much even a small amount of alcohol and a change in my diet can affect the clarity of your skin.

My three tips for great skin;
1. Drink at least 2 litres of water
2. Eat raw, natural, unprocessed foods with no added sugar
3. Exercise daily

New Year, New You!

Let 2016 be the year that you get your skin in its best shape ever.

Your skin cells typically turnover every month or so, depending on your age and the condition your skin is in.

This rate of skin shedding, or desquamation, can vary with different people. Thee cell turnover rate of a more mature skin or a seborrheic, acne skin will have slowed down. On the other hand, skin that is very dry, is eczema or psoriasis prone, will have accelerated turnover rate and may complete their cycle every week!

Each cell turnover is a chance for you to repair the damage and begin creating new healthy skin cells that last all through the shedding process, where they will become visible on the top layer of the epidermis.

We need to target the cells from the very beginning of the turnover cycle to ensure they are strengthened and healthy throughout the process. The use of active ingredients here such as glycolic acid, retinol, vitamin C, stem cells, peptides will all help to repair damaged cells from the root.

These new healthy cells will travel up through the epidermal layers and visibly appear on the surface of your skin. Improved skin tone and texture, reduction in fine lines, reduction in pigmentation and overall healthier, glowing skin are all achievable with perseverance and dedication.

However, don't expect your skin to miraculously transform after just one months skin cycle! Depending on the level of damage to your cells it could take a while to see any improvement at all. Look at each cell turnover as a chance to repair and grow.

1 year.
12 turnover cycles.
12 chances to nourish and feed your skin.
12 chances to repair and grow damaged cells.

Make 2016 your skin's year.
