Fake Tans!

Fake tanning is something almost every woman loves but unfortunately for some, it's not the easiest task to undertake. There are hundreds of different tanning products out there and without professional knowledge it is very hard to know which one is the best for you.
While living in Australia I really began to appreciate the importance of a natural looking fake tan. As the weather was great (most of the time) and I was exposing a lot more of my body, I felt it was crucial to have a tan. With my Celtic complexion Sun Bathing was not an option and I didn't want to expose my skin to harmful UVA and UVB rays. I quickly learned one of the most important factors in achieving an even, natural looking tan was the preparation to my skin prior to tanning and also how I looked after my tan once it was developed.

Here are some of the most important Tanning Tips and Tricks
 to follow:

If you can afford to have your tans done by a professional this is certainly the best option. Spray tanning gives the most even application and is almost fool proof.

Skin Patch tests are free of charge in practically every salon and is highly recommended for sensitive skin types, or if you have never used UV Free tanning products.

A professional spray tan can cost between 15Euro and 40Euro depending on the location of the salon.

Pre-Tan
It is recommended to shower and exfoliate the skin prior to a spray tanning session, or for best results book in for a professional exfoliation treatment.

This is one of the best prep products to use prior to tanning:

You should wear dark clothing, preferably something loose so you don't get any lines or streaks on the skin while the tan is developing.
Do not apply moisturiser, deodorant or perfume to the body as it will interfere with the absorption of the tanning solution into the skin. You should be sure to conduct any hair removal procedures (shaving, epilating, waxing) prior to tan application. Most salons will supply disposable underwear for men & women if you should need them.

Post-Tan
Do not shower for at least 6-8 hours, this time allows the tan to develop on your skin. Do not exercise excessively or participate in activities causing heavy perspiring for at least 6-8 hours after the spray tanning process.
Avoid activities which naturally exfoliate the skin such as long baths and chlorine pools. Moisturise your skin regularly, for best results use professional tan extenders.
NB: Wash off color after your first shower is normal. This is simply the excess bronzer washing off the skin.

Celebrities are now endorsing a lot of different fake tanning products and this is great in my opinion as it appears to be creating more of an awareness among the general public of the risks associated with sun bathing.

The most recent campaign by Kate Moss has received huge publicity!!

Easy to see why!!

St Tropez is one of my favourite professional spray tans. The colour suits most complexions and can be sprayed lighter or heavier for a light, medium or dark tan. They also have a range of homecare products to help prolong the life of your tan.

I also have a couple of other tans I find great and I will post on these soon.
