Know your waxing!!
I have had a couple of requests to explain what the different types of bikini waxing are;
Standard Bikini Line: As far as a Normal Panty Line to the front. Everything outside of the underwear is removed.
High Leg Bikini: As far as a High knicker Line to the front and underneath.
Californian: Thong Shaped to the front and “Close Cropped” underneath.
Brazilian: “All Off” with the exception of a “Landing Strip” to the front. Either a long strip or a small patch across the top.
Hollywood: “All Off”
For your first time, regular or high leg bikini is usually recommended so you can slowly build yourself up to Brazilian or Hollywood. The therapist will have to prepare the area and explain the procedure to you. The area may need to be trimmed before the waxing can take place and the therapist may have to work slowly to find your tolerance level. Treatments should be carried out at no more than 4 week intervals from the previous wax.
Generally salons will not carry out any waxing on a client who has not been patch tested by prior to a first treatment. Patch testing only takes a moment of your time but you must wait 24 hours from time of test to treatment being carried out.
No matter where you get waxed, your should prepare the hair. Your hair should be at least 1/4 inch long so that your hair can be easily picked up by the wax. It is better for your hair to be the same length so total clearance is achieved. If some of the hair is too long, just trim it into the proper length. The hair has different growth cycles, if you perform the waxing regularly , your hair will get into the same growth cycle, giving you a longer hair free period in between waxes.
The latest phenomena in the waxing scene is Lycon Waxing.
The Lycon brand offers a choice of Hot Wax, Strip Wax and Lycon’s unique Lycojet waxes, complemented by pre and post waxing lotions, allowing the right combination to be tailored for total customer satisfaction.
It is the most pain-free wax available on the market at present. It can be used on hair as short as 1mm. It is a Hot wax that works at a low temperature and is so gentle it can be worked on the skin up to 5 times. Lycon has many imitators that are not as effective.
A pre waxing oil is used on the skin before the wax is applied to act as a barrier to protect the skin. Once the wax is applied it attaches and hardens around the hair. Once set, the wax is quickly pulled and the hairs are removed without any effect on the surrounding skin. A post wax oil is then applied to the skin to soothe the area.
All heat/ friction should be avoided for 24 hours after any waxing to prevent further irritation and any bacteria forming in the follicles.
Prices for waxing really varies from salon to salon with regular bikini waxing starting at 15Euro and Hollywoods going up to anything from 65Euro. There is usually an additional charge for the use of Lycon Wax.
Regular bikini can be carried out in minutes with Hollywoods taking anything up to 30 minutes.
